Waking up early for sunrise elopements has very quickly become one of my very favorite things to do. It can be daunting when I set my alarm for 4am, but driving in the dark, quiet morning and seeing the expression on everyone’s faces when they see the sun pop up makes it all worth it.
Robyn & Isaac and I met just before sunrise for their ceremony at Shenandoah National Park here in Virginia. There is when they exchanged their hand-written vows with Dave, their officiant. It was a warm and sunny day, not too hot accompanied by an absolutely perfect sunrise.
Robyn wore this beautiful floral dress, with a bouquet of paper flowers and flowers made of book pages. Isaac wore a floral tie and a handkerchief in his pocket that he gifted to Robyn for when their relationship was long distance. There was so much thought and so much meaning behind every single detail of their day. After the ceremony we drove along Skyline Drive, stopping along the way to dance in the fields, walk along Big Meadows while they chatted about music and movies, watched the deer, and we even found a secret green forest.
Towards the end of their special day, we ended at an empty picnic area where Robyn and Isaac had an amazing picnic with cake and macarons from Crumbs and Crumbles (@allthecrumbles). When Robyn & Isaac were long distance, Robyn would read The Little Prince to Isaac on the phone. So fitting, that on their wedding day Isaac had played guitar while Robyn read Little Prince (much in the same fashion as Peter and the Wolf - where Robyn read a line and Isaac played music to accompany it) and then she danced to Isaac’s music.
Towards the end of the day as Robyn & Isaac were packing their things up, Robyn said “let’s just have one more moment” and grabbed Isaac’s arm and hugged him. They stood quietly and peacefully together before driving away. Now if that isn’t a fairytale dream, I don’t know what is.
I love how much of their entire relationship and themselves they put into their morning together and I feel so humbled and grateful to have captured it. Congratulations to Robyn & Isaac and may you live happily ever after!
